Salman
Khan joins hands with BMC to start mobile toilets in Mumbai
Salman Khan is known for his very broad philanthropy. The
actor met Mumbai municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta on Saturday and accepted the
Bombay Municipal Corporation's proposal to become its brand ambassador against
open defecation. Salman has also decided to donate five state-of-the-art mobile
toilets for the campaign in Bandra, where the resident 'Sultan' lives.
The toilets will be installed in various parts of the city
for slum dwellers and homeless migrants. Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray was
present at the meeting. "Having a strong following and being a popular
actor, Salman's support in terms of providing five mobile toilets throughout
the city would help us reduce cases of open defecation," said Ajoy Mehta.
Salman, who animates Swacch Bhaarat Abhiyaan on social
networks and who has been known to transform clean villages during the filming
of 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', said: "In a megacity like Mumbai, this seems very
inconvenient to find people defecating in open. Best effort to tell them to end
this practice. "
Mobile toilets will be called "Bhai Ke Baths" to
encourage people to stop defecating in the open air. "People will be told
that Salman Bhai has donated baths to use them, which will be promoted as Bhai
ke baths, and with this, we hope people will start using them," said a
senior BMC official.
