Olympic Gold Medallist’s Family Upset With Makers Of Akshay Kumar’s Gold
In terms of films, Akshay Kumar is on a roll; He is the only
actor who has given 4 back to back 100 crore films (Airlift, Housefull 3,
Rustom, Jolly LLB 2) in a period of 13 months and will be seen in Toilet Ek
Prem Katha next.
But more than the Box Office returns, what is more
interesting is Akshay's choice of scripts. While Airlift had a patriotic note,
Housefull was an out and out comedy and his upcoming films, Padman and Toilet
Ek Prem Katha will give out a social message. Akshay will also be seen in Reema
Kagti's Gold, which is said to be based on the historic story of India's first
Olympic medal as a free nation. Akshay will play the role of Indian hockey
player Balbir Singh, who was integral to the match for which India won the
medal.
However, in the recent turn of events, Balbir Singh's
daughter, Sushbir Kaur does not seem to be happy about the developments. In an
interview with Mid-Day, she said, "The media has reported that Gold is
based on my father's life since he was the star of the Olympics show. But, we
are not sure about the subject and how much of it will delve "The 1948
Olympics revolved around many key players." The tiranga was hoisted on
foreign shores and my father was an important part of it.
He also added, "He was instrumental in getting the gold
and we are his immediate family. Ideally, we should be consulted on this. As of
now, there is no clarity on the film."
We sure hope this gets sorted out, as Gold is definitely one
of the most awaited Akshay Kumar films.
