Salman Khan's Tubeligth To Clash With This South Superstar's Next Film
We had previously reported that Director A.R. Murugadoss had
announced the launch date of its bilingual Tamil-Telugu with Mahesh Babu on
Twitter. The film, provisionally titled Mahesh 23, is set for release on June
23, 2017, which premieres during the Eid festival, putting it on a direct
collision course with Salman Khan's upcoming war film Tubelight.
As we all know, Salman has made the Eid release period his
own, after delivering several blockbuster during the festival. In fact, his
last two releases of Eid - Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan - both raised on Rs.
300 crore at the national box office alone. In addition, the audience is
awaiting the return of the Salman Khan-Kabir Khan combo.
On the other hand, one can not overlook the star-power of
Mahesh Babu, especially in the South. His Srimanthudu is Telugu's biggest
success after Baahubali: The Beginning, and the actor has also delivered
several other blockbusters, not to mention being the only Telugu actor with six
films over a million dollars in the US. This time he collaborates with
Murugadoss, one of the most famous directors of the South, and the film also
marks the debut of actor Tamil, as he is a bilingual, who will automatically
expand his reach. In addition, Mahesh 23 is carrying more buzz towards the
south than Tubelight.
Tubelight is touted to be a war film with an undercurrent
human sensitivity, which is the kind of material that Kabir excels at capturing
in the film. Mahesh 23 is an action thriller that will have Mahesh Babu playing
a soft intelligence officer and Murugadoss has assured his fans that Prince
will be seen in an avatar never seen before. That aspect alone should dent the
collections of Tubelight in the south. However, the Salman Khan starman must
drive through the rest of the country, and face relatively zero competition in
the north. It's going to be a very interesting shock this Eid.
